Gears of War: E-Day: a new foundation, and a lot of missing rooms
The movement has never been better and Unreal Engine 5 delivers. But Horde lost its 50 waves and there are only six maps.

A hide-and-seek game where you blend into a herd of NPCs, except here you have to prove it on the microphone. Oh Deer with a voice.

The game everyone is thinking of is called Oh Deer, released in 2024. One hunter, up to four players disguised as deer, and a herd of computer-run animals to blend into. The pleasure came from stillness: not moving, not panicking, looking like a deer that is grazing.
Moo Who? takes that principle and adds the one thing that could make it harder to hold: you have to open your mouth.

Each animal player is assigned a species and must imitate it on the microphone. Moo like a cow. Cluck like a chicken. Oink like a pig. Baa like a sheep.
The requirement is phrased with an honesty that raises a smile: just make it believable enough to survive.
That is already funny, but the real stroke is elsewhere. You cannot stay silent forever. At intervals a sound-pressure moment arrives and you must produce your noise before it is too late. Fail and buzzing flies appear around you, making your position easier for hunters to spot.
That mechanic solves the problem that undermines every hiding game: the player who tucks into a corner and does nothing. Here stillness and silence are punished, so you have to give yourself away deliberately, at the best possible moment, hoping your impression passes.
On the other side, hunters carry a shotgun and every shot matters. Shooting the wrong animal wastes a chance; hitting a real player brings the team closer to victory.
That is the right balance. A hunter who blasts away loses, so he has to listen, compare, doubt. And because players are forced to make noise, the hunter has something to work with.
The game plays two to eight online, in short matches the studio describes with the right words: panic, suspicion, fake confidence, wrong accusations and terrible animal sounds.

The game launches today, developed by SAT Productions.
Two reservations that will decide its fate.
You need microphones and friends. This is a party game, not a solo one, and its value depends entirely on the group. With silent strangers, nothing remains. With four friends willing to moo in a living room, it is a whole evening.
Longevity is the real unknown. The principle is brilliant but narrow: once you have laughed at everyone's impressions, the variety of species, maps and situations has to take over. That will need checking after a few weeks.
Worth noting the genre already exists, between Oh Deer and its rival Hoofobia. The difference here is entirely the voice, and it is enough to justify a place of its own.

It rewards a central mechanic that genuinely adds something to a known formula, and above all the sound-pressure moment, which forbids passive hiding and forces every player into a deliberate risk.
It accounts for a narrow scope, total dependence on group and hardware, and longevity hanging on content variety.
For an evening among people unafraid of looking ridiculous, it is a very good pick.

Made by Criterion's former boss. We wanted 1999 on the Nintendo 64, we got a roguelite Burnout. And it is very good.

A year of silence, reviews calling it a dead project, and then a new chapter, a new boss and a rebuilt Endless Mode.
