This week's deals: a Capcom sale closing tomorrow, and Warner clearing its catalogue at up to 95 per cent off

A 90 per cent discount tells you nothing until you know what it is on. A 60-euro game marked at 5.77 is sometimes the bargain of the century and sometimes a game nobody wanted at full price for good reasons.

So here is the sort. Six sales running at our partner, over seven hundred games, and above all a piece of calendar information nobody is flagging: they all end on 4 September, except one that closes tomorrow morning.

Closing tomorrow: the Capcom sale

Start with the urgent one, because it is the only one that will not wait. The Capcom Flash Deals stop on 25 August, so tomorrow.

And the catalogue is generous, with a near-complete Resident Evil run.

Resident Evil 2 at 7.44 euros (-81 per cent) and Resident Evil 3 at the same price. The RE2 remake is one of the best horror games of the decade, and at that price the question does not arise.

Resident Evil Village at 9.24 euros (-77 per cent), or its Gold Edition at 13.75 euros (-72 per cent) which carries the expansion. Take the Gold, the four-euro difference buys the Winters' Expansion.

Monster Hunter Rise + Sunbreak at 8.88 euros (-85 per cent). That is several hundred hours for the price of a decent sandwich.

Monster Hunter World at 7.26 euros, with Iceborne at 5.64 alongside. Same remark.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen at 4.55 euros (-85 per cent). The cult one, the one we have been recommending for ten years and you still have not launched.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective at 9.15 euros. One of the cleverest scripts ever written for a puzzle game, by the Ace Attorney team.

Okami HD at 9.24 euros, if you have never painted a sun into the sky.

And for anyone curious about the back catalogue, Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 at 4.73 euros each, Resident Evil (1996) at the same price.

Warner: the catalogue under ten euros

This is the sale with the most spectacular percentages, and the lines need reading one by one because not everything here is equal.

Hogwarts Legacy at 8.47 euros (-86 per cent). The best deal of the lot, no argument. The game comfortably holds its thirty or forty hours and it has never been this low.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate at 7.57 euros (-87 per cent), which contains all the additional content. A better pick than MK1 at 9.39 if you want content rather than novelty.

Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY at 2.61 euros and Arkham City GOTY at 3.46. Two of the best superhero games in existence, for the price of a coffee each.

Mad Max at 2.61 euros (-87 per cent). Underrated on release, a very good desert driving game, and an adaptation far more respectful than average.

Injustice 2 Legendary Edition at 5.12 euros (-91 per cent).

And then there is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League at 3.41 euros, a 95 per cent discount. It is the most violent percentage of the whole week and it tells a story on its own. At that price, curiosity is allowed. One cent more and it is not.

Take 2: Rockstar, 2K and a great deal of Borderlands

Red Dead Redemption 2 at 14.99 euros (-75 per cent). If you do not have it, now is the time. And if you are hesitating, the Ultimate Edition is 19.99.

Borderlands 3 at 5.77 euros (-90 per cent), or the Ultimate Edition at 18.71 with every DLC. The second is the better content-to-price ratio of the two.

Borderlands 2 GOTY at 5.77 euros, The Handsome Collection at 13.99, The Pre-Sequel at 3.92. The whole series is in there.

Borderlands 4 is at 32.58 euros (-53 per cent), which is fair for a recent game without being a steal. If you can wait, that figure will fall further.

Civilization VI at 5.77 euros (-90 per cent), and above all the Anthology at 27.96 which contains absolutely everything. For a game played over years, the Anthology is the only sensible purchase.

Civilization VII at 32.58 euros for anyone who wants the latest.

XCOM 2 at 2.95 euros (-85 per cent). Take it. And The Bureau: XCOM Declassified at 3.92 if you are a completist, but do not start there.

Marvel's Midnight Suns at 8.54 euros (-86 per cent). Badly sold, badly understood, an excellent tactics game. Exactly the sort of title these sales exist to rehabilitate.

Homeworld Remastered Collection at 3.14 euros and Deserts of Kharak at 4.48, both at -90 per cent. Homeworld 3 is at 18.53, and it divides opinion far more than its predecessors.

The Quarry at 5.77 euros (-90 per cent), BioShock: The Collection at 11.32, Rollerdrome at 7.16, Risk of Rain 2 at 7.99.

Devolver: eighty-eight games, and the lowest prices of the week

This is the sale where you fill a basket without noticing, because nothing goes above twenty euros and most titles sit under five.

Inscryption at 7.99 euros (-60 per cent). If you have not played it, read nothing about it and buy it. That is all I will say.

Cult of the Lamb at 11.49 euros, Death's Door at 3.90 (-80 per cent), GRIS at 2.96, The Messenger at 3.36.

The Talos Principle at 4.35 euros (-85 per cent) and The Talos Principle 2 at 14.49. Two of the best philosophical puzzle games ever made, and the first at that price is theft.

Hotline Miami at 1.95 euros and Hotline Miami 2 at 2.22.

Return to Monkey Island at 7.35 euros (-70 per cent).

The Plucky Squire at 9.90 euros (-67 per cent), charming and very well made.

Loop Hero at 2.96 euros, Enter the Gungeon at 4.44, My Friend Pedro at 3.36, Katana ZERO at 7.49, CARRION at 3.90, Terra Nil at 12.49.

And two curiosities under a euro: Downwell and Stories Untold at 99 cents each. The second is a small marvel of narrative horror that nobody played.

Frontier: the management sims

A narrower sale, but this is where the games that eat entire weekends live.

Planet Zoo at 12.70 euros (-72 per cent), with most animal packs at 4.85. Beware the classic trap: Planet Zoo DLC quickly costs more than the game, take two or three, not ten.

Planet Coaster at 8.99 euros (-76 per cent), and Planet Coaster 2 at 25.64 (-49 per cent) for anyone who wants the water.

Jurassic World Evolution 2 at 16.86 euros, or the first at 10.62. The second is better, take it.

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters at 10.62 euros (-76 per cent). An excellent tactics game that very unfairly slipped under the radar.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin at 11.32 euros (-81 per cent).

Elite Dangerous at 5.77 euros, if you have always wanted to know what it is to fly for four hours to deliver a crate.

F1 Manager 2024 at 9.93 euros (-72 per cent).

Gamescom: 427 games, with a few gems inside

This is the catch-all sale, the one you have to dig through. What I turned up:

HITMAN World of Assassination at 23.27 euros (-67 per cent). Three games in one, hundreds of hours if you enjoy restarting a level twenty times.

ASTRONEER at 6.78 euros (-77 per cent).

Disco Elysium - The Final Cut at 9.47 euros (-76 per cent). If you have not played it, stop reading this article.

The First Berserker: Khazan at 31.67 euros (-47 per cent), released last year and rarely discounted.

Orcs Must Die! 3 at 6.39 euros, Stranded Deep at 7.62, Revenge of the Savage Planet at 12.56.

Le Mans Ultimate at 22.28 euros (-44 per cent) and rFactor 2 at 3.92 (-87 per cent) for the sim racing corner.

Balatro is at 11.22 euros, which is 20 per cent. Not a big cut, but this game never comes down, so it is worth flagging.

Three pieces of advice before reaching for the card

Be wary of Deluxe editions. On many of the lines above, the Deluxe costs twice the base version for a pack of skins. The exceptions are real (Borderlands 3 Ultimate, Civilization VI Anthology, RE Village Gold) because they contain actual expansions. Look at what is inside, not at the percentage.

A big percentage on an old game is not a bargain, it is depreciation. A 2013 title at -90 per cent is simply worth its age. The right question is not how far it has fallen, but whether you will play it.

And the prices here are the French store's, in euros. The links take you automatically to your regional store, where the amounts differ.
