Marrying farming with tower defence is not new, but it has a recurring flaw: the two halves tolerate each other without speaking. You farm in your corner, then place turrets elsewhere.

The Rabbit Haul solves that simply: your plants are the towers.

The Rabbit Haul, Sprout's garden

Daytime

You are Sprout, a determined rabbit trying to rebuild their hometown after the Trash Panda Posse, a gang of mischievous raccoons, tore it apart.

By day you farm with purpose. You grow crops, you build defensive plant towers, and you shape your garden so it can stand when night falls.

The studio stresses the point that matters: plant synergies and well-placed defences are the difference between keeping your haul and watching it disappear.

In other words, planting is not an economic activity separate from defence. It is the defence.

Night-time

The raccoons arrive in waves and swarm the farm, each with their own tricks and behaviours, all trying to steal your hard-earned crops.

As days pass, waves get tougher and enemies get smarter. You upgrade your towers, explore for stronger weapons, and fight through until morning.

And the game phrases the link between the two phases very well: every night tests the care and thought you put into your garden during the day.

It is a short, legible loop that gives meaning to the slowness of the daytime phase. You are not farming while waiting for the action, you are preparing the action.

The Rabbit Haul, the night defence

The roguelite around it

Every run pushes Sprout a little further. The garden evolves and grows with each passing day, and every attempt is a chance to try a new strategy.

You explore to find treasure, quests, upgrades, weapons, and unexpected helpers or hindrances.

And when a run ends, all is not lost: you rebuild, unlock new options, and head out better prepared. Failure is part of the plan, and starting over does not mean starting from scratch.

It is the expected structure, correctly executed.

What to know

The game launches today, developed by Caldera Interactive and co-published with Fandom, with no price displayed and no reviews as I write. It is single-player, with adjustable difficulty and no imposed real-time pressure.

My reservation concerns variety. A defence game lives on the diversity of its threats, and the promise of raccoons with different behaviours is good provided those behaviours genuinely demand different answers. Otherwise you end up stacking the same plant everywhere.

What makes me optimistic is that the studio talks about plant synergies rather than tower levels. The first phrasing produces different gardens, the second produces optimal ones.
