Fallen Tear: The Ascension delays its 1.0 by a week, and explains why without hiding
The hand-drawn metroidvania was due today. It now arrives on 23 September, and the studio's message is worth reading.

A four-player zombie survival where weather drives the threat. Announced for 22 October, so not yet judgeable.

Let us be clear straight away: this game does not launch today, it launches on 22 October. So this is not a review, it is a reconnaissance.
And there is one idea worth pencilling the date in for.

The zombie survival genre is probably the most saturated in existence, and most candidates settle for stacking the same systems.
This one proposes something finer: weather drives the threat.
The wind changes direction, rain falls without warning, and dense fog can completely destroy your visibility. But fog is not only a natural phenomenon, it is also a warning sign: when visibility drops, zombies become more aggressive and attack from within the darkness.
That is a simple, well-found idea. It turns weather into an alert system, and therefore into strategic information. Watching fog roll in stops being pretty and becomes a decision: go home, or finish what you started.
The rest is the classic formula, honestly announced.
A shelter to grow, from a simple cabin to a larger, more liveable base. You organise, you craft, you make somewhere to rest.
A twenty-four-hour day-night cycle, which paces gathering, reinforcing and preparing.
Food to produce, and this is the best-detailed part: hunting animals such as deer, processing the meat, cooking it over a fire. And when ready-to-eat food runs short, working the soil, planting tomatoes, growing your crops.
And co-op for up to four players, to explore, defend and build together.

Three things, and the first matters most.
Does the weather keep its promise? An alert system only has value if it genuinely changes player behaviour. If fog merely darkens the screen without changing how you play, the game becomes one more survival among many.
Is hunger a problem or a gauge? The studio details a complete food chain, from hunting to farming. That is promising, provided the chain is a constraint rather than a chore.
And does co-op bring anything beyond extra hands? With four players, a survival game has to offer a division of roles, or it merely divides the work by four.
The game arrives in early access, developed and published by MAY19 Studio, with no price displayed as I write.
See you on 22 October.
