Avatar Legends The Fighting Game arrives with twelve fighters, and its great strength is that each one genuinely plays differently. Thanks to the Flow system, unique per character, two masters of the same element share neither the same speed, nor the same combo routes, nor the same identity. Choosing your main becomes a real decision, not just an aesthetic one. This guide reviews all twelve characters of the launch roster, with their archetype, playstyle, difficulty and strengths, then points you toward the best picks to start with.

Avatar Legends The Fighting Game, a roster of twelve fighters with radically different styles

Mechanics recap: Flow, energy and supports

Before the characters, a word on the systems that run through all of them. Flow is the heart of the game: with a single input, you dodge an attack, slip under a projectile, launch into the air or chain directly into a character-specific ability, at the cost of chi. Each fighter has their own Flow options, which completely redefines how their element behaves in a match. It's this mechanic that gives each one their personality, and mastering it is the key to progression.

To that add two layers. First, energy points, which you build through skilled play to unleash enhanced specials and devastating cinematic Super Arts. Then the support characters: you choose three to accompany your fighter, each unlocking modified abilities and new strategic possibilities based on your style. The main character defines your base identity, the supports refine it. Keep these three systems in mind while reading the profiles below, because they condition how each fighter expresses their strengths.

The airbenders: Aang, Zaheer, Avatar State Aang

Aang is an ultra-mobile rushdown, fast and aggressive, betting on speed and close-range pressure through his airbending techniques, glider and air scooter chief among them. He's a nervous character, rewarding for whoever loves dictating the pace and smothering the opponent, but his mobility demands rigor not to overexpose yourself. Intermediate difficulty.

Zaheer, the Red Lotus airbender, is a floaty, unconventional specialist, turned toward complex aerial loops and evasive, wind-assisted maneuvers. Very aggressive in the air, he excels at versatile aerial pressure, but his demanding combos reserve him for players ready to invest time. High difficulty.

Avatar State Aang occupies a separate slot: he's a boss-style character, endowed with all elements and powerful Chakra Arts. His complete elemental palette makes him extremely versatile, able to adapt to every range, but that wealth of options makes him an advanced fighter, to approach once the basics are learned. High difficulty.

The waterbenders: Katara, Korra, Avatar State Korra

Katara is the roster's zoner, built on distance control and defensive setups. Water whips and ice projectiles let her attack at full screen, while her ice traps and defensive tools reward patient resource management. Her clear toolset makes her an excellent pick to start, as long as you enjoy keeping the opponent at bay. Accessible difficulty.

Korra is an aggressive, heavy-hitting brawler, at home in direct engagement. A modern Avatar, she combines several elements, aerial somersaults and varied elemental specials in a powerful rushdown style. She's a frontal character, satisfying and legible, ideal for whoever wants to apply pressure directly. Intermediate difficulty.

Avatar State Korra is a distinct version, a high-power install-style fighter, wielding all elements in an amplified form. Her heightened offense and Avatar-energy techniques make her a formidable fighter, but managing her power and resources takes experience. High difficulty.

The firebenders: Zuko, Azula, Fire Lord Ozai

Zuko is a mid-range duelist, balancing offense and defense. His normals and fire specials, divekicks and fire kicks, serve a precise spacing game to control mid-range exchanges and pressure the opponent. Endowed with reliable anti-airs and simple basic combos, he ranks among the most recommended characters to start. Accessible difficulty.

Azula is a high-execution, oppressive fighter, a specialist of aerial pressure and aggressive traps. Her blue fire projectiles and lightning setups impose strict frame traps, and her exceptional air mobility lets her dominate the skies and control the space above the battlefield. Powerful but demanding, she rewards precision. High difficulty.

Fire Lord Ozai is a high-damage zoner, controlling space from a distance. Capable of sustained flight modes and screen-filling fire blasts, he excels at keepaway and long-range harassment. A character for whoever loves holding the opponent at bay under a flood of fire, with good reading of the field. Intermediate difficulty.

Earth and weapon: Toph, Avatar Kyoshi, Sokka

Toph is the roster's quiet force, a high-defense, high-damage powerhouse. Her hits are somewhat slow but strike very hard, and the whole subtlety lies in approaching, surviving the opponent's pressure and finding the opening, with effective high-low mixups and grabs to punish blocks. Sturdy and forgiving, she's arguably the game's most accessible character. Accessible difficulty.

Avatar Kyoshi is a heavily armored juggernaut, wielding massive war fans to deal colossal single-hit damage. Her long-reaching normals beat everyone else on the roster in range, and while her ground speed is slow, she compensates with airbending that makes her evasive and surprisingly quick. A character of space control through reach and armor. Intermediate difficulty.

Sokka is the only non-bending fighter, a specialist of traps and setups. Boomerang, sword and club counters make up a clever arsenal, built on space-denying traps and unpredictable offense through his item throws. He's a technical, cunning character, rewarding trickery and a sense of positioning rather than brute force. Intermediate-to-high difficulty.

Avatar Legends The Fighting Game, varied archetypes from zoner to juggernaut by way of rushdown

Where to start: the best characters for beginners

If you're new to the game or to fighting games in general, three characters stand out for laying healthy foundations. Toph is arguably the most accessible pick: sturdy, high-damage, she forgives mistakes and teaches the fundamentals of approach and punishment without demanding perfect execution. Zuko is the intuitive archetype par excellence, with his mid-range fire pokes, reliable anti-airs and simple combos, ideal for learning spacing and pressure. Katara, finally, offers a crystal-clear zoning game, with clear projectiles and defensive tools, perfect for whoever prefers controlling distance and playing patient.

Conversely, save for later the high-execution characters like Azula and Zaheer, whose frame traps and aerial loops demand real investment, as well as Avatar State Aang and Korra, whose full palette and heightened power are mastered once the fundamentals are learned. Whatever your choice, remember the game's true heart remains Flow: it's by learning your character's own routes, and grafting the right three supports onto them, that you'll reveal their full depth. Take the time to try several fighters in training before settling on your main, because under familiar elements hide radically different styles.
