Let me reproduce the game's full description, because it runs to four sentences and it is perfect.

"There is an egg. It is very big. Your job is simple: crack it open. Don't ask why."

CRACK, the egg

What it is

A one to four player co-op adventure where you and your friends work together to uncover what is inside a mysterious giant egg.

You unlock hidden rooms and upgrade your tools throughout the facility.

And the studio poses two questions it does not answer: who built this laboratory? Why are you here?

Why it is clever

Because the instruction is absurd but the system is not.

In a co-op game, the design difficulty is not giving people a goal, it is giving them a goal that forces coordination. Four people each hammering away in their own corner are not playing together, they are playing alongside.

A single enormous object, placed at the centre, that everybody works on at once with different tools, is the most direct way to solve that. You cannot disperse: the target is there, and it is the same for everyone.

And the absence of explanation does the rest of the work. When nobody knows why they are doing what they are doing, the group invents its own theories, and that is precisely what makes an evening memorable.

CRACK, the laboratory

Progression

You upgrade your tools, and you open hidden rooms throughout the facility.

That is the right structure: the shell is the timer, and the laboratory is the reward. Every milestone on the egg gives access to something else, so the group has a reason to continue beyond hitting harder.

Which leaves the real question, the one only time settles: is there something at the end? A game built on a mystery has to pay it off. If there is nothing in the egg, the joke turns on itself.

The reception

182 reviews, 87 per cent positive. Rated very positive, and for a game released yesterday at 6.79 euros, that is a clean start.

That is the kind of figure that says a game found its audience immediately, which mostly happens when the pitch is understandable in one sentence. And this one is understandable in four words.

CRACK, the tools

The reservations

This is a group game. The store page says one to four players, and technically that is true. But a game whose entire appeal is hitting an egg with friends while inventing theories has little to offer alone.

Length is the unknown. Nobody announces a figure. For a seven euro game, three or four hours amply fulfils the contract, but know it going in.

And everything rests on the reveal. I repeat it because it is the project's only real risk.

CRACK, the crack

What I like is the confidence. It takes a certain nerve to write a four-sentence description, one of which is "don't ask why", and to count on people paying anyway.

And evidently, they paid.

Do you know what is inside the egg? Do not say. Just come and look mysterious on the InsertCoins Discord.
