Verdict

There are two ways to read Dimraeth's store page. Either this is a game that wants to do everything, or it is a game that worked out how to connect things usually served to us separately.

After careful reading I lean towards the second, with a reservation I am saving for the end.

Dimraeth, exploring Mirkea

Combat first

The studio promises Souls-lite and it honours the basic contract: every attack is a commitment.

You manage stamina, read enemy telegraphs, position yourself, and only then decide to strike, dodge, block or parry. This is not a game where you hammer a button while looking elsewhere.

Alongside sits magic, and that is where it gets interesting. You equip five spells at a time and build tactical rotations around that selection. Your race and class bring their own spells, and crafted spellbooks grant access to universal magic, provided you meet the attribute requirements.

The advertised total exceeds three hundred spells. That is a lot, and the five-slot limit is precisely what stops the number turning to mush: you will never use three hundred spells, you will choose five, and the choosing is what counts.

Character creation

Eight races, six classes, and the studio advertises 48 distinct archetypes from combining them, each with its own skill tree and playstyle.

The arithmetic is honest, the promise slightly less so: forty-eight combinations do not make forty-eight different games. But a tree per pairing is already more attention than most games of the genre give their creation screen.

Dimraeth, fighting a boss

And then you go home

This is the part I was not expecting and the one that gives the game its personality.

You explore Mirkea, complete quests, recruit allies, collect loot and resources. Then you go home to craft equipment, brew potions and cook hearty meals that increase your vitality.

You build farms, quarries and other structures for a steady supply. And crucially you invest materials in your allies' facilities, which expands their shop inventories, adds crafting services and opens more farming plots.

There are even deepening relationships, with new conversations, personal quests and possible romances.

In other words your base is not a storage chest, it is a village growing with you. Every expedition leaves your hero stronger and your home more complete, and on paper that is the game's most satisfying loop.

Multiplayer, generous

Up to eight players in seamless co-op, with drop-in and drop-out during play.

Eight is unusual. Most action RPGs stop at four, and doing it drop-in on a world that includes base building is a genuine technical challenge.

The reservation

The game launches today into early access, with no reviews, and no price displayed as I write.

My reservation is simple and applies to every project of this ambition: a studio promising demanding combat, forty-eight archetypes, three hundred spells, crafting, building, romances and eight simultaneous players has to succeed at seven things at once.

Games that manage it are memorable. Those that fail generally do so by nailing two areas and rushing the other five, and early access exists precisely to find out which category this one falls into.

What makes me fairly optimistic is that the links between the parts are designed: cooking serves combat, combat yields materials, materials upgrade allies, allies sell what you need to go back into combat. That is not a juxtaposition, it is a circuit. Whether it turns smoothly remains to be seen.
