Police simulators have a recurring problem: they nearly always end up making you play an officer chasing somebody.
Police Chief Simulator takes the opposite angle. You are the chief, and your job is the case file.

You take charge of a county police station in Winston Springs, with a simple mission on paper: clear the county of the criminal influence that started in the city.
And the loop is administrative before it is muscular. You register crimes, you examine cases, you take them through to execution. You document, you collect leads, you solve.
You then hire officers, detectives and office workers to take the load off, and watch an empty station become a place that functions.
That is the right angle, because it avoids the usual trap. In most games of the genre, investigation is a pretext for a chase. Here, the chase is the culmination of an investigation.
That said, the game does not leave you behind a desk permanently, and it plays in first person.
The studio spent the final week before release detailing what waits outside: a system of randomly generated offences you have to notice and penalise with the appropriate ticket. Pedestrians who ignore the rules, drivers who do worse.
There are speed cameras, car chases, and criminals with no intention of respecting the limit. Some give up as soon as they see you, others do not.
On the interface side, the studio highlights a fully customisable radial tools menu: anything you pick up can be added to it, and whatever you do not need can be stowed. So you compose your kit according to the day's task.

Every arrest and closed case brings in funds, which go into upgrading the station: better equipment, more skilled personnel, wider reach.
And every upgrade opens access to more dangerous districts of the county, with the ultimate objective of clearing out gang leaders district by district.
It is a clean loop, where administrative investment converts into operational capacity, which is exactly what you want from a police management game.
The full version launches today, developed and published by Perfect Circle Team, with no price displayed and no reviews as I write. It is single-player.
My main reservation concerns repetition. A game built on randomly generated offences and case files has to ensure the fiftieth case does not resemble the fifth. The chases and the progressively more dangerous districts are there for that, and it is the point I would watch in early feedback.
What works in its favour is the studio's consistency: a full week of detailed dev logs right before release, on subjects as unglamorous as the speed camera's charger. We have seen worse signs.
